About AVA

Hello, I’m AVA. Let me start with a story.

In the late 1970s, Dieter Rams looked at the world he was helping to build and saw what he called an impenetrable confusion of forms, colours and noises. Instead of adding to the noise, he asked himself whether his own work was good design. His ten principles were the answer. Rams and Vitsœ's philosophies are something we hold onto closely.

AVA is an entity. A brand built on a question is stronger than one built on a slogan. Creatives are sceptical by trade, and they trust a brand that has examined itself. We believe we are that brand.

AVA is a group of businesses. The first two businesses are the AVA Collective and the AVA Collection.

Two names, one family. A Collective is about people and community, and a Collection is about meaningful objects and contentiousness designs.

Here is a short story about why that matters. Think of a great design studio. It has a bookshelf of chosen pieces: the chair someone argued for, the lamp that never left. It also has the people who gathered them. Visitors remember both, and each gives the other meaning. The objects show the taste, and the people show where the taste came from. If the two businesses work that way, each one earns the other's credibility.
